Come to the Museum for a Fun-Filled
Second Saturday! On Second Saturday the Museum is open it’s
regular Saturday hours but the Special Second Saturday program
starts at
1:00.
2009 Second Saturday and Special Saturday Programs
All activities will begin at
1pm and take place at the Escondido Children’s
Museum unless otherwise noted.
Activities are free with price of admission to the Museum.

*July 11th
Pioneer Day! – Visit our Pioneer Schoolhouse and learn about
how some people lived when they first came out West. Did you know they
used a tub and a washboard to wash their clothes? We’ll make
a take-home candle the old fashioned way. We’ll also make butter
that we’ll spread on corn bread, and we’ll learn to work
with leather just like in the old days!

*August 8th
Everything Desert! – Do you know what big horn sheep, rattlesnakes,
and plants like yucca and cactus have in common? They are all adapted
to live in a dry desert environment. We’ll have reptile experts
from the the San Diego Herpetological Society bring in some live desert
reptiles for you to see up close! We’ll learn about the early
people of California and how they used the local plants and animals
to their advantage. We’ll also make a take-home project using
desert sand!

*September 12th
Corn Wonderful Corn! –Learn about all the everyday products that
can be made from corn! We’ll do a science experiment and pop
some corn for everyone to eat!
*October 10th
Bats! –Learn all about these amazing creatures and create a bat
to take home and hang from your ceiling!
*November 14th
All About Chickens! – Eggs don’t grow on trees! Learn everything
you always wanted to know about chickens. Nancee Hanson will bring
her vast knowledge of chickens to the Escondido Children’s Museum.
She will also bring one of her favorite chickens for everyone to pet
and feed!
*December 12th
World Traditions! – Food and customs from around the world. Enjoy
the season by learning about how various cultures celebrate the winter
holidays. We’ll decorate a cookie or two for you to take home
and share!
