Mundo Lindo
Mundo Lindo (Spanish
for "Beautiful World")
is a series of free weekly creativity classes at ECM for 4th
and
5th
grade
children
from the low-income population of Escondido. The year-long program
created and taught by professional artist Jane
LaFazio, is funded by The Kenneth
A. Picerne Foundation. Jane guides the kids in discovering
the joy and power of creativity through hands-on projects as
they learn art skills and problem solving. Each lesson is based
on the exhibits at ECM, where the 2-hour classes take place.
Parents need to register in advance and may choose
to attend either the Tuesday classes or the Thursday classes.
Both classes are 3:30-5:30, and perfect for after school. There
is a limit of 15 kids per class. The classes and supplies are
free, thanks to the Picerne Foundation! And, kids are welcome
to attend session after session, since Jane plans to continually
introduce fun new projects.
Mundo Lindo has recently received another grant,
this one from the Westreich
Foundation, to continue Mundo Lindo throughout the summer
months! Watch this space for the announcement of registration,
days and times for the summer session.
To register, children must be in the 4th or 5th
grade from low-income families and residents of Escondido. 760-739-9513
to register for the 8-week sessions.
