Volunteering at ECM

Did you know that the Escondido Children's Museum is run primarily by volunteers? If you are interested in making an important difference to the children and families of San Diego County, you have come to the right place! We currently have opportunites to fit every schedule and interest. With the new school year underway, we are particularly busy with school groups visiting the museum, upcoming special projects, developing new exhibits, and implementing new programs. There has never been a more exciting and interesting time at ECM or a better time to join our team!

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers for the following positions:

1) Exhibit Hall Docent, 2 hour shifts
    Circulating and talking with visitors all ages
    Discussing educational content of exhibits
    Promoting safety
    Providing high quality customer service
    Available days: Tuesday 10-2, Wednesday 12-4, Thursday 10-2, Friday 10-2, and Saturday 11-3
    Minimum hours required: 2 hours a month, on-going
    Also needed: Substitutes for all shifts

2) Workshop Leader for Group Visits
    A modest honorarium is available, although your donated time helps the museum even more!
    Workshop leader facilitates the entire Group Visit with a Welcome/Orientation, a focused, hands-on activity and enrichment time
    in the Exhibit Hall.
    Retired teachers as well as teachers to be welcome!!!
    Minimum hours required: varies, flexible

3) Educators for Outreach Programs
    A modest honorarium is avaliable, although your donated time helps the museum even more!
    Perform our educational programs at schools and other off-site locations
    Minimum hours required: varies, flexible

4) Special Projects:
i.e. sewing, painting, mailing, preparing
Minimum hours required: varies, flexible

5) Special Events:
i.e. Street Faires, Birthday Parties, 2nd Saturdays, Family Nights
Minimum hours required: varies, flexible

6) Birthday Party Coordinator
    Help facilitate birthday parties at the Museum
    Clean up and set up
    Perfect for someone with event planning experience or aspirations
    Minimum hours required: varies, flexible

**The museum is happy to offer your immediate family (children and spouse) free admission as long as you are currently volunteering, meaning that you are on the schedule to volunteer during the month of your free visit. You need to be present for your children to attend for free. While some museums ask for their volunteers to join as paying members, we are happy to offer a limited free admission benefit to thank you for helping us make this wonderful, young museum survive and thrive.
